 Uses of Tnoin Capsules

1. Severe nodular or cystic acne (main indication)
2. Acne resistant to antibiotics or topical treatments
3. Acne with a risk of scarring or psychological distress
4. Off- label uses (only under specialist supervision):
   • Certain cases of rosacea
   • Seborrhea (excessively oily skin)
   • Hidradenitis suppurativa
   • Folliculitis decalvans (scalp folliculitis)
   • Rare skin cancers (investigational)

Precautions Before and During Use

Isotretinoin is highly effective, but requires strict precautions due to its potential for serious side effects.

 Absolute Contraindications

• Pregnancy: Extremely teratogenic (causes severe birth defects).
• Breastfeeding
• Allergy to isotretinoin or its components

 Precautions

1. Pregnancy Prevention Program:
   • Negative pregnancy tests before, during, and after treatment
   • Use of two forms of birth control (one hormonal + one barrier method) for females of childbearing potential
   • Avoid pregnancy for 1 month before, during, and 1 month after treatment
2. Liver Function & Lipids:
   • Monitor liver enzymes and cholesterol/triglycerides before and during treatment (can become elevated)
3. Mental Health Monitoring:
   • Risk of depression, mood swings, and rarely suicidal thoughts
   • Patients with a history of mental illness should be closely monitored
4. Avoid Alcohol (increases liver strain and may worsen triglyceride levels)
5. Avoid Vitamin A Supplements:
   • Increases risk of toxicity (isotretinoin is a vitamin A derivative)
6. Sun Sensitivity:
   • Use sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure
7. Avoid Waxing or Dermabrasion:
   • Fragile skin during treatment and for up to 6 months after
